Had to have the lime papercuts from cookie’s fabric delights yesterday. Have been thinking about new cushions for a while for the couch. Will also do a couple more when I get some of that fancy printing fabric. (Jemima is in the photo as it was the only way I could keep pushy, cranky little person out of the photo.) One of the othersides is this gorgeous vintage curtain fabric - an op shop find from a few months ago.  This is such a quick turnaround for me - the papercuts didn’t even make it to the stash.

Got an impromptu night out with mr last night, lovely relos offered to hang out with the girls.  They also provided some one on one attention for our day in the city on Thursday.

Puppets at Fed Square, Ferris Wheel and Birrarung Marr park. (this is Gordon - he is staying with us for a week from creche - the kids are keeping a scrapbook of what we get up to with him)

Knowing we would be cooped up in the house today, I took the girls to breaky.  They smoozed a cookie -

Tomorrow, we will have to do something though - we all get a bit frayed around the edges if the girls are left to their own devices for too long……  Happy Rainy Windy days

Spotlighting…

One of the ladies turned 5 last week - I can’t believe it.  And for 9 months she has been talking about a spotlighting party.  To anyone who has been in the ute for traditional spotlighting: you’ll be relieved to know that she just means looking, not anything more sinister than that.  It was a quiet birthday year this year, last year’s dino party at the museum was ridiculous really so it was a much smaller affair this time.

So the kids decorated their paper glasses Dame Edna style - Hello Possums - thanks to Nikki for the tip off re the glasses at Riot Art.  They are also at Windmill but I didn’t get there.

We covered our torches with red cellophane (I called the ranger a few days before looking for any intel I could pass on to the kids about the possums we would be looking for.  I explained what we were doing and she said “you do realise it’s against the wildlife protection act to shine any type of light at wildlife??”  Great, there goes the party…..  Anyhow, it turns out if you tint the light with cellophane, it’s not as damaging or disturbing.  Gave the kids something to do - they were soooo excited to have torches out - it was gorgeous.)  We had a quick bite to eat - Planning Queen style:

Then we gaggled off to the gardens in such of something to spotlight:

The kids had soooo much fun running around the park spotting possums.  We were looking for the Powerful Owl but she remained elusive.  Then we walked back home for ice-cream cake:

Thanks to everyone who helped on the night - to Mum for coming down and helping get things organised, Nic for the tea cups and Carmen for the grownup food.  Happy Birthday kiddo:

Hello Sailor!!

Whilst in town today we popped into the vintage market at the Carlton Hotel.  I haven’t been there since it’s reno but it still bought back lots of hazy memories of long nights and late / early mornings……  did score this dress which has the added bonus of buttons up the front for next year’s dairy days..

Apparently John Brack is at the Ian Potter NGV

not the NGV - as I found out after I waited in line with all the other very keen Dali-heads for about …..half an hour!!!!  Nevermind, we got there, the kids got to do some dali-stuff while I waited in line:

I love living in Melbourne - and it’s nice to be home long enough on the weekends to enjoy it.  And Damage cooked tea on Saturday night - he conceptualised, he hunted and gathered and he executed - chicken casseroley thingy - yum, all the better because I didn’t have to lift a finger….  But then, he did spend half of our sunday listening to the footy via his phone.  Which gave me the shits and I behaved like a child.  Then he composted the garden so I stopped being a spoilt brat and made some pumpkin soup. Which was yum. And a chocolate self saucing pudding.  Which was also yum.  I’m off to have some soup.

Guilt free couch potato

gosh I feel better about monging in front of the tele when I am doing something as I watch / listen.  CSI is losing me slowly but these have kept me in front of Katherine, Jim, Nick and of course Horatio and co.

And have embarked on another epic (for me) adventure with the needles which made it all ok to have (don’t tell anyone) Brothers and Sisters on.  It took me a while to work out how to cast on (my mum did it for me last time) - i love this wool, its so busy it doesn’t matter how not very neat you are….

A trip away, an early return for a lazy day

I feel like we have been FLAT CHAT.  My niece was staying with us all last week and we had a weekend away to my hometown.  It was busy - we did fit in a trip over the river to non-swineflu land and the Farmers Market - it was awesome!!!!  I go to the Queen Vic for all my fresh produce but have been to the collingwood cf farmers market and will have to hunt down a few more.   SOOOOOOO FRESHHH - I was in heaven.

Anyhow, after only two days in the country, I was feeling claustrophobic and thought a day at home in melbourne would be what we all needed.  So we fled back to melb on sunday and yesterday we had a lazy late breaky at home and a bit of a tidy up.  Me and ladedah were in our pj’s until after lunch.  Damage took the girls to the park, I went for a walk after being inspired by Pip last week and we capped it off with a drink at local cafe.   Damage even cooked tea!!  Rested, feels better.

Hero or Villian - you decide

hero-or-villian-001

the front on photo is rather X rated so we just have the side profile.  So you can make an informed decision, this is the same kid who steals bubblegum from the supermarket, who gangs up with her cousin and sits on her older sister and who has selective hearing like I have never experienced.

What else?

  •  Thanks to this lady for helping me upgrade to my new look and for just being fantastic really.
  • I finished and delivered some crowns (finally) for handmade helps.
  • We have a school reunion coming up - not sure on that.
  • I cashed in on a facial I got for christmas the other day and I almost bought the cleanser and the moisteriser - the $205 price tag meant they stayed at the salon.  Does anyone spend that much on face stuff?  I almost fell through the face hole of the massage table thingy.
  • busting to do some sewing but its a jungle in there and I cant seem to face it.  That’s my next job.
  • hair growing but slowly.  If I had clippers in my house I reckon I would’ve gone the zzzzz - its all boofy but not quite long enough.  patience young grasshopper.
  • had a lovely convo with a friend in a far away place and have had a few quick chats with oldies in other lands afar - feeling lucky in the friends and life department.  Especially missing rockgods in the stickyouty part of ol’ blighty.  Go the canaries.

life goes on hey

White Lightning

Driving home last night (11pm), there was a white late 80’s celica type car in front of me going sooooo slow but almost taking up two lanes.  To myself, I say, “what’s going on - this guy’s been at the pub”.  When it was safe to overtake, I pulled up in the lane next to the car and had a quick glance - this frail, grey-haired old man was putt-putting along in this sports car - the best bit - on the side of the door were printed the words - “WHITE LIGHTNING”.  I nearly wet my pants….

So what else?

- recovering from wedding and victoria tour but missing the company including our fluffy new friend.  Teaching children to hound man about the house for four legged friend. (its clumsy but I couldn’t rewrite it)

- Felt Crowns at P8s.

- finished seat covers and table runner for birthday girl.

- drive to a garden with special people - that looks tidier.

- had mini escape on sat nite with Damage - sushi train and beanbag movie.  We walked into Melb Central and although good time had, I think we significantly raised the average age of revellers.  At least these young folk were all wearing trousers which covered their undies - has that fad finally died?

- on Sunday went to brunch with uni friends to Big Fish.  If you live in thornbury, you should go there - fairytrade coffee, yummy eggs and mind the banana bread - as in “Dont mind if I do, it’s bloody beautiful”.

- last night went to booky chat and got a lot of autographs - ”Hi, what page are you?”
